San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with another calf issue, casting doubt on his availability for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers listed McCaffrey as a “limited participant” in wednesday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This latest setback continues a frustrating pattern of injuries for the star running back, who missed games last season due to a calf injury and achilles tendon issues.
While McCaffrey appeared healthy entering the season, his durability remains a concern. Should he be unable to play or be limited against Seattle, Brian Robinson Jr. is expected to see an increased role in the 49ers’ offense.
Last season, McCaffrey played in just four games, rushing for 202 yards on 50 carries without scoring a touchdown. This followed a stellar 2023 campaign where he recorded over 2,000 total yards (1,459 rushing and 564 receiving) and 21 touchdowns – the best season of his career.
Injuries have sadly plagued McCaffrey throughout his career, limiting him to three games in 2020, seven in 2021, and four in 2024.
The 49ers will face the Seahawks on Sunday.
