Petition Calls for Radical Tax Overhaul: Abolish PIT, Eliminate 800+ and Pensions
Warsaw, Poland – A new petition submitted to the Sejm (Polish Parliament) proposes a sweeping overhaul of Poland’s tax and social welfare system, advocating for the complete abolition of the personal income tax (PIT) in exchange for eliminating the 800+ child benefit program, as well as the 13th and 14th retirement pensions. The proposal, identified as BKSP-155-X-690/25, is presented as a budget-neutral solution intended to simplify taxation and address concerns about hidden tax increases.
the petition’s author argues the proposed changes would create a fairer system for all citizens, together removing numerous complex tax deductions and reliefs. A key benefit highlighted is addressing the lack of indexation of PIT thresholds, which effectively functions as a recurring, unacknowledged tax hike. The proposal also aims to satisfy demands for increasing the tax-free allowance to PLN 60,000, even amidst current budgetary constraints and significant military spending. The petition further stresses the need for compensation to local government units to ensure their financial stability under the new system.
