Rodez Hospital Expands Services with New Ophthalmology Unit
The Centre hospitalier Jacques-Puel de Bourran in Rodez, France, will launch a specialized ophthalmology unit on April 2, 2026, bolstering healthcare offerings in the Aveyron region. The expansion aims to provide hospital-level care for specific eye conditions requiring structured follow-up within a hospital setting, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
The new unit will primarily serve patients over the age of 50, but will also accept younger individuals requiring treatment for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, high myopia (exceeding -6 diopters) and those seeking cataract surgery. The service will also address functional eyelid surgery needs – including treatment for small cancerous lesions, ectropion, entropion, and dermatochalasis – excluding purely cosmetic procedures, and pterygium surgery.
Consultations will be conducted by Doctors Nada and Aida Adrira, with offices located at 5 rue de Copenhague, Bourran, on the ground floor of the Le Médicis residence (Building B). Appointments are currently being scheduled through the Doctolib platform at www.doctolib.fr/hopital-public/rodez/centre-hospitalier-de-rodez or by calling 05 65 55 23 40.
Beginning in May, the ophthalmology unit will expand to include surgical procedures, specifically cataract surgery and functional eyelid surgery. Doctors Adrira and Adrira will also provide on-call coverage for ophthalmological emergencies referred through the SAMU (emergency medical services) at Centre 15. Pediatric ophthalmology care will not be offered within this new unit, with care for children up to eight years of age remaining outside its scope.
The launch of the ophthalmology unit is part of a broader effort to develop specialized hospital care within the Rodez healthcare system, addressing identified medical needs and providing expertise previously unavailable locally. The Centre hospitalier de Rodez confirmed the expansion in a statement released on March 23, 2026.
