New Oncologist Joins Cognac-Châteaubernard Hospital | Charente Libre

February 16, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

A new physician, Dr. Philippe Peytour, has joined the oncology department at the Grand Cognac Hospital in Châteaubernard, France, as of the beginning of February, according to a report from Charente Libre published Monday.

Dr. Peytour is a versatile physician with expertise spanning general medicine, geriatrics, tropical medicine, sports medicine, and nutrition. He brings a broad skillset to the hospital’s oncology service, where he will work directly with cancer patients.

Prior to arriving at the Grand Cognac Hospital, Dr. Peytour held a diverse career in healthcare. He began as a general practitioner in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, near Bordeaux, and later taught at the ISPED (Institute of Public Health, Epidemiology and Development) in Bordeaux. He subsequently led the preventive medicine center in Nancy and the French Blood Establishment on Réunion Island, and the breast cancer screening center in Aude.

The Grand Cognac Hospital offers systemic medical cancer treatments for adults and provides oncological support care. The hospital’s oncology unit is coordinated by the head nurse, and a weekly multidisciplinary support care staff meeting is held, according to information published on the Onco-Nouvelle-Aquitaine website.

The hospital also offers physical activity adapted for cancer patients, with a focus on assessment, education, and therapeutic patient education for both patients and their families. Support care services are accessible to patients followed by the hospital and are financially supported by the establishment.

Bruno Bonnain, the director of the Hôpitaux de Grand Cognac, recently expressed confidence in the hospital’s ambitions for 2026, following a 10% increase in activity last year.
