Remodeling plans for New Mark Middle School, funded by the 2025 North Kansas City Schools bond issue, have been approved by the school board. A key component of the renovation is a notable expansion of the school’s gymnasium.

the approved plans address the growing needs of the student body and aim to enhance the school’s athletic and physical education programs.The gym expansion will provide increased space for physical education classes, athletic practices, and school events. Specific details regarding the size of the expansion and associated costs were approved during the board meeting on January 23, 2026. North Kansas City schools officials stated the project is a direct result of community support for the bond issue.

Beyond the gym expansion,the bond issue will fund other improvements across the district. These include updates to classrooms, technology infrastructure, and safety and security enhancements at multiple schools. KSHB reports that the bond issue passed with significant voter approval in April 2025.

Construction on the New mark Middle School renovations is slated to begin in the spring of 2026, with completion anticipated by the start of the 2026-2027 school year.School officials are working closely with architects and construction teams to minimize disruption to students and staff during the building process.
