New Google TV Streaming Sticks From Walmart and Xiaomi
Walmart has introduced a new 4K Google TV streaming dongle designed to compete in the budget-friendly media player market, mirroring the form factor and functionality of Google’s Chromecast devices.
The device integrates the Google TV operating system, providing users with a centralized interface for streaming applications and content recommendations. By leveraging the 4K resolution standard, the hardware aims to provide high-definition playback for compatible displays, positioning itself as an accessible upgrade for older television sets lacking native smart capabilities.
Xiaomi Expands Streaming Portfolio
Simultaneously, Xiaomi has announced the release of the Xiaomi TV Stick HD (2nd Generation). This updated hardware iteration features a faster processor compared to its predecessor, intended to reduce latency and improve navigation speed within the user interface.
The second-generation stick introduces support for HDR10+, a high dynamic range standard that optimizes contrast and color accuracy for compatible content. Technical specifications for the new Xiaomi device include 1GB of RAM and the inclusion of a microUSB port for power delivery.
These developments indicate a tightening race among electronics manufacturers to capture the “stick” market, where the primary goal is to provide a low-cost, low-footprint alternative to full-sized set-top boxes. While Walmart focuses on the 4K tier, Xiaomi is targeting the HD segment with incremental hardware improvements to stability and visual processing.
Availability and regional pricing for the Walmart and Xiaomi devices remain subject to specific market rollout schedules.
