New Flight Routes to Spain: Spring/Summer 2026 Guide

March 24, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Spain Sees Surge in Bookings as Travelers Avoid Middle East Amid Conflict

Madrid and Barcelona are experiencing a significant increase in flight bookings as travelers seek alternative destinations to avoid potential disruptions and safety concerns in the Middle East, according to airline data and industry reports. The shift comes as major transfer hubs in the Gulf region, such as Dubai and Doha, face limitations due to the ongoing conflict.

The trend is particularly noticeable for routes to Asia and Oceania, which are becoming more complicated and expensive due to the limited availability of stopovers in the Middle East. Several European airlines have also announced hundreds of flight cancellations, partially attributed to the conflict and a spike in jet fuel prices, further contributing to the demand for alternative routes.

Recent Routes from Madrid

Iberia Airlines will launch daily flights between Madrid and Newark Liberty International Airport starting March 29th. Delta Airlines will begin daily services between Madrid and Boston on May 16th. Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas will inaugurate a new route between Madrid and Buenos Aires on May 23rd. For shorter routes, Volotea will begin flying between Madrid and Lille twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, offering approximately 6,500 seats.

Barcelona Expands Flight Options

Barcelona is also benefiting from the increased demand, with several new routes announced. Delta Airlines will operate a new route between Barcelona and Seattle, beginning in May 2026 with three weekly flights. The airline is also adding daily flights from Barcelona to Boston, starting May 7th. Aeromexico will launch a direct route between Barcelona and Mexico City on March 28th, transporting approximately 3,000 passengers per week with six weekly flights. Wizz Air will operate daily flights from Barcelona to London Luton, with increased frequencies on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Condor will launch a direct connection between Barcelona and Frankfurt on May 1st, with three daily flights. Norwegian airlines will run two weekly round-trip flights between Barcelona and Billund from April 1st to October 24th.

Valencia and Seville Add Connections

Valencia will observe new flights to Helsinki with Finnair, operating twice weekly from April 11th to October 24th. Ryanair will launch flights between Valencia and Rabat, Morocco, with two weekly frequencies starting March 31st. Wizz Air will also begin flights from Valencia to London Luton on March 29th, with four weekly frequencies. Volotea will launch a new route between Valencia and Lille, operating on Thursdays and Sundays from May 21st to June 25th, 2026, and from September 10th to October 4th, 2027. Seville will also gain connections to Lille with Volotea, starting in May 2026 with two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, and to London Luton with Wizz Air, beginning March 29th with four weekly frequencies.
