Nevada DMV Vehicle Registration Reports Surge After Launch

by Emma Walker – News Editor

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada residents have submitted nearly 15,000 reports of vehicles with expired, invalid, or missing registrations thru teh ⁤Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles‘ (DMV) new online “Nevada Registration spotter” program in its frist month.

Launched on October 10, the program received “a little over 14,600 submissions” as⁤ of Tuesday morning, according to the DMV. More than 5,000 reports were‍ filed within the first 12 days of the program’s availability.

The online form, accessible on the DMV website, allows⁣ Nevadans to report ⁢vehicles operating ⁢with expired, ⁢invalid, or no registration, as‌ well as those displaying illegal out-of-state plates.

“I think this report form is so beneficial in so many ways,” said⁣ J.D. Decker,Chief‌ of the ⁣Compliance Enforcement Division, when announcing the program. “We ‌get so many calls, inquiries, and complaints daily about civilians noticing unregistered vehicles on the roads and ‍what can be done about it and‌ now we finally have a solution.”

The DMV clarifies the form is not intended for reporting⁣ abandoned vehicles, traffic or parking violations, ⁤unsafe driving,‍ or stolen vehicles.

Reports are reviewed by the DMV’s Compliance enforcement Division and shared with other law enforcement⁣ agencies.⁤ The DMV will compile data by geographic area and forward it to local agencies for assistance.

“We are heavily relying on our law enforcement agencies around the state to tackle this problem,” said Hailey ‍Foster with the Nevada Department‌ of Motor Vehicles. “The officers actually have to catch the car ⁣driving on the road in order for a citation to‌ be issued.”
