Nevada-based casino companies are expanding their reach into California‘s lucrative tribal gaming market,a move that could perhaps impact the Reno-Tahoe region’s casino revenue.
Red Rock Resorts,Boyd gaming, and Caesars Entertainment are all actively involved in developing and operating casino-resorts in partnership with California tribes. This expansion represents a significant investment in the nation’s largest Indian gaming state and raises questions about weather Northern California will siphon buisness away from Nevada’s established gaming hubs.
Red Rock Resorts, previously operating the Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento (2003-2010) and the graton Resort & Casino in Santa Rosa (2013-2021), is currently constructing a new tribal casino in Madera, located 30 miles north of Fresno and 140 miles south of Sacramento. Construction began last year.
Boyd Gaming currently operates a casino in Elk Grove,a Sacramento suburb. Caesars Entertainment manages a tribal casino in Ione and is also developing a second property within the state.
