Netflix Film Sparks Controversy: 15-Year-Old Girl’s Shocking Reaction

Prague, Czech Republic – January 16, 2024 – A new film by director Marty Pohl is sparking debate over its age rating, with some parents expressing concern over its graphic content despite being classified as suitable for ages 16 and up.The film, currently available on Netflix in the Czech Republic, has drawn attention for its dark humor, violence, and strong language.

One parent, speaking anonymously, shared their experience after viewing the film with their daughter. “We were afraid because the daughter is vrey sensitive. We saw the film and could reassure her that no harm had happened to the man. It helped her and was sleeping well.I just don’t understand why Netflix will not warn that it is indeed a family comedy accessible only from the age of eighteen,” she stated. The parent’s concern centers on the potential for the film’s content to be disturbing to younger viewers, even with the existing age restriction.

Director Pohl’s work is known for its unconventional style, blending black comedy with explicit violence and coarse language. This latest film continues that trend, featuring a narrative that pushes boundaries and challenges typical cinematic norms. The film’s age rating is 16+, a classification steadfast by the czech Film Fund (Český filmový fond) based on content guidelines.

Despite the controversial elements, the film boasts a strong cast, including Jan Hofman, Vladimir Škultéty, and Marek Milko, who recently received public support through a fundraising campaign after expressing difficulties in finding work. Supporting roles are filled by Milan Šteindler, musician Robert Nebřenský, and Tomáš Jeřábek of the National Theater.

Critics have acknowledged the maturation of Pohl’s directorial style, praising his ability to convey a clear message and the strong performances from the actors. The film received a rating of two thumbs up from the publication’s editors, indicating a positive, though potentially niche, reception.
