Netanyahu: Iran Threatens Global Security, Calls for International Action

March 22, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted Sunday that recent attacks originating from Iran demonstrate a threat extending beyond Israel’s borders and impacting global security, calling for a stronger international response to Tehran’s actions. Speaking at the site of a missile strike in Arad, Netanyahu stated, “If you wish proof that Iran endangers the entire world, the last 48 hours have given it.”

Netanyahu characterized the recent missile fire targeting Israeli civilian areas as an attempt “to murder civilians,” noting that the absence of casualties in Arad was a matter of chance rather than intent. He also referenced a missile launch toward Jerusalem late last week, which he said landed near significant religious sites, including the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, characterizing it as evidence of indiscriminate targeting.

Beyond attacks directly targeting Israel, Netanyahu cited reports of a long-range missile launch toward Diego Garcia, a British territory in the Indian Ocean, as evidence of Iran’s expanding military capabilities. He further claimed prior Iranian targeting of European territory, specifically mentioning Cyprus, and warned that these developments place multiple regions at risk. “They have now the capacity to reach deep into Europe,” Netanyahu said. “They are putting everyone in their sights.”

The Prime Minister accused Iran of threatening international maritime routes and energy supply lines, alleging that Tehran is attempting to “blackmail the entire world.” He called for coordinated international pressure, stating that Israel and the United States are acting in concert and urging other nations to join their efforts. “The call is not only for the security of America and Israel, but for the security of the entire world,” he added, emphasizing the need for broader global involvement.

Responding to questions from reporters, Netanyahu clarified that Israel’s military response is focused on Iranian leadership and infrastructure, rather than targeting civilians. “We’re going after the regime… the IRGC, their leaders, their installations, their economic assets,” he stated.

Recent reports indicate a shift in the dynamic between Israel and the United States regarding the conflict with Iran. Three days ago, Netanyahu stated Israel “acted alone” in attacking an Iranian gas field, a claim that followed a spike in energy prices after Israel hit Iran’s South Pars, part of the world’s largest natural gas field. US President Donald Trump subsequently posted that he had not been informed of the attack in advance. Netanyahu has since rejected accusations that he dragged the US into the war, calling such claims “fake news.”
