NCAA Brackets & Funny Names: Daily Dirt for March 18, 2026

March 22, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

College basketball fans are taking notice of the names on the court, and not just for their athletic prowess. A recent list compiled by Muddy River News highlights players with particularly memorable names as the NCAA Tournaments get underway, sparking conversation about the stories behind those monikers.

The list, published March 18, 2026, features Vanderbilt freshman Chandler Bing as “Mern’s Name of the Year,” a nod to the popular character from the television present “Friends.” Interestingly, the Vanderbilt player has reportedly never seen an episode of the show, according to the report.

Alongside Bing, the list recognizes a “First Team” of players with notable names: Solo Ball (UConn), Jizzle James (Cincinnati – son of former NFL running back Edgerrin James), Supreme Cook (Oregon), Tennessee Rainwater (Utah Tech), Townsend Tripple (BYU), and All Wright (Xavier). A “Second Team” includes Wiggy Ball (UL-Monroe), Churchill Bounds (Salisbury University), Michaelangelo Oberti (Penn), Cyncier Harrison (Stetson), Enoch Cheeks (Dayton), and Frederico Frederico (Texas Tech).

The compilation doesn’t stop there, offering “Special Mentions” to players like Boo Buie (Northwestern), Tony Toney (UAB), Boopie Miller (SMU), Puff Johnson (Penn State), Legend Geeter (Eastern Michigan), Legend Smiley (USF), Stoney Hadnot (South Dakota State), Blue Cain (Georgia), Boogie Fland (Arkansas), Kobe Elvis (Dayton), Rocket Watts (Oakland), Doctor Bradley (Bethune-Cookman), Maximus Gizzi (Minnesota), and Sami Pissis (Alabama A&M).

The Muddy River News list also extends to the women’s tournament, naming UTEP’s Thelma Barbitch as the “Women’s Name of the Year,” with a humorous observation about the potential need for a name change. The women’s “First Team” includes Gabby Goo (Utah Valley), Trinity San Antonio (Grand Canyon), Chariot Johnson (Bethune-Cookman), Ice Brady (UConn), and Last-Tear Poa (LSU). The “Second Team” features Lamiracle Lebon (Pacific), Winner Bartholomew (Pacific), Destiny Salary (Western Kentucky), Lacambria Shakespeare (Alabama A&M), Nike Borg (Southern Utah), with special mentions for Laronda Quattlebaum (Jacksonville), Blessing King (Marshall), Timberlyn Yeast (Marshall), Rain Green (SEMO), Lyric Barr (Houston Christian).

The author, Steve Eighinger, also shared a few “Did you know?” facts, including that some Japanese toilets play music, the average person spends three years of their life on the toilet, and obscure words like “yestreen” and “overtomorrow.” He also noted upcoming birthdays of Diana Ross, Kenny Chesney, Fergie, Reba McEntire, and Lady Gaga, suggesting a concert featuring all five would be quite a show.
