NC State Completes Series Sweep of Sacred Heart with Dominant Run-Rule Victory
RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 14 NC State baseball secured a decisive 13-0 run-rule victory over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field, completing a three-game series sweep. The Wolfpack’s offense continued its torrid pace, scoring 13 runs in seven innings and extending its streak of games with 10 or more runs to five, totaling 90 runs over that span.
Luke Nixon led the Wolfpack at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Sherman Johnson, making his first start in right field, also delivered a strong performance, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Mikey Ryan added a home run, his third of the season, and Wyatt Peifer contributed two RBIs.
NC State’s offensive display was characterized by patience, and power. The team drew 11 walks even as striking out only four times. The Wolfpack has now stolen 30 bases this season, matching their total from the entirety of the 2025 season, and have been caught stealing just four times.
On the mound, starter Cooper Consiglio (1-1) delivered a dominant performance, pitching five shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, walked three batters, and struck out five. Relievers Aiden Kitchings and Ryder Garino combined to hold Sacred Heart scoreless in the final two innings.
The Wolfpack wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring in the first inning for the fifth time this season. Nixon’s two-run home run to right field quickly put NC State ahead. The team is now 7-0 when scoring first.
The offensive onslaught continued in the second inning, highlighted by Ryan’s solo home run. Nixon extended the lead with a bases-loaded walk, and Johnson followed with a two-run single on a full count, pushing the Wolfpack’s advantage to 6-0.
NC State added to its lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Johnson and a two-run single from Peifer. The sixth inning saw the Wolfpack score three more runs without recording a hit, capitalizing on five walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Entering Sunday’s game, NC State was averaging 19.3 runs per game and had hit 12 home runs over its previous four games, leading all of Division One in both categories, according to team officials.
The Wolfpack will continue its homestand next week, hosting No. 9 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 3 p.m. And Queens on Wednesday at the same time. Both games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
