NBA Star Gilbert Arenas Arrested for Illegal Poker Operations

Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA star known as “Agent Zero,” has a well-documented passion for poker.

his foray into high-stakes poker was evident in 2014 when he competed in the Main Event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in the Bahamas. During the tournament, Arenas displayed considerable skill. Donnie Peters, then editor-in-chief of PokerNews, observed, “He handles his chips well and we see him very attentive to the action at his table.”

Eight years later, Arenas reappeared on the poker scene, participating in a Hustler Casino Live stream for a Pot-Limit Omaha game wiht blinds set at $100/$200/$200.

This is not the first instance where arenas’ involvement with card games has led to legal entanglements. In 2009, a dispute arose between Arenas and his former teammate Javaris Crittenton concerning a debt stemming from a card game. The situation escalated, leading Arenas to bring unloaded weapons into the teamS locker room. He afterward pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying an illegal weapon, resulting in his suspension by the NBA for the remainder of the 2009-2010 season.

Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that Arenas and Crittendon had a disagreement over poker. The dispute was related to a card game.
