NBA Scores & Schedules: Grizzlies, Hornets, Lakers, Magic, Knicks, Nets & More
Taj Gibson, a veteran NBA player, has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to a team announcement made Monday. Gibson, 40, joins his eighth NBA team, having most recently played for the Charlotte Hornets.
The Grizzlies added Gibson as a free agent, bolstering their frontcourt depth. Gibson’s signing comes after a season split between the Detroit Pistons and the Hornets. He appeared in 41 games for Charlotte, averaging 3.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game.
Gibson’s career began in 2009 when he was drafted 26th overall by the Chicago Bulls. He spent eight seasons with the Bulls, establishing himself as a reliable power forward and center. He has since played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks (in two separate stints, 2019-2022 and 2023-2024), Washington Wizards, and Detroit Pistons.
During his time with the New York Knicks, Gibson was a key contributor, playing alongside players like Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. On November 11, 2025, the Knicks defeated the Grizzlies 133-120, a game where Brunson scored 32 points and Towns added 21 points and 13 rebounds. Gibson was not a member of the Grizzlies at that time.
Gibson’s addition to the Grizzlies roster provides coach Mike Brown with a seasoned veteran who can contribute both on the court and in the locker room. The Grizzlies currently hold a 4-8 record, and are 1-3 away from home. The team is looking to improve its performance after a challenging start to the season.
The Grizzlies are scheduled to play the New York Knicks again later this season, offering Gibson an opportunity to face his former team. No date for that game has been announced.
