Government Responds as National Resource Fire Escalates to “serious” Level
A fire at the National Intelligence Resource Service facility in Daejeon has disrupted numerous government services, prompting a government-wide response to minimize public inconvenience. The situation has escalated to a “serious” level, according to reports.
The Ministry of Public Governance and Security announced that despite the system outages, administrative agencies are prohibited from denying services – including accepting applications, processing replacements, granting extensions, and handling retroactive requests – based on their work continuity plans. Minister Yoon Ho-jung stated, “The government is mobilizing all its capabilities for the prompt recovery of the situation, and we will do our best to minimize the inconvenience of the people.”
Citizens are advised to stay informed through television, radio, emergency disaster texts, and direct communication with administrative agencies.
Several key online services are currently affected. These include the complaint processing system, electronic family relations registration (http://efamily.scourt.go.kr), traffic civil complaint 24 (https://www.efine.go.kr), Home Tax (https://www.hometax.go.kr), national health insurance (https://www.nhis.or.kr), and agricultural E (https://nongupez.go.kr).
The fire has also paralyzed operations at the post office system. Internet post office and financial services like post office deposits and insurance are unavailable. This disruption comes ahead of the busy Chuseok holiday, raising concerns about mail delivery.
While parcel delivery is continuing using an offline system, relying on data already entered into the system, officials from the Korea Postal Division acknowledge that if the system isn’t restored by next week, mail receipt and delivery will require a fully manual, offline process, increasing logistical demands.
post office financing services, including ATM withdrawals, transfers, premium payments, and other transactions, are currently suspended. However, the korea Postal Service assures the public that the fire will not impact the validity of existing post office deposit and insurance contracts.
