nathan Buckley to Join Geelong as Assistant Coach for 2026 Season
Geelong has appointed former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley as an assistant coach, the club announced today. Buckley will join the Cats’ coaching panel ahead of the 2026 AFL season, bringing a wealth of experience to the program.
The move marks Buckley’s return to coaching after four years in the media, where he established himself as a respected commentator for Fox Footy and SEN. Geelong’s acquisition of Buckley adds significant firepower to an already experienced coaching group,as the club looks to build on its recent success and remain a premiership contender.
Buckley enjoyed a decorated 280-game playing career before transitioning to coaching with Collingwood in 2010 as an assistant. He assumed the senior coaching role in 2012,leading the Magpies through five finals series, including two Preliminary Finals and a Grand Final appearance in 2018.
“we are excited to add Nathan to our Club and more specifically to our coaching group,” said Geelong Cats Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie.”He is respected and highly regarded across the football industry and brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective.”
Mackie added, “In speaking with Nathan, it was clear he had a strong appetite to return to coaching, and we look forward to welcoming him to our football program to work closely with our players and staff.”
