NASCAR has penalized Rick Ware Racing (RWR) following a loose wheel incident that brought out a caution flag during a recent Cup Series race. The No. 51 RWR Ford experienced a right-rear wheel separation in the closing laps, allowing the car to continue but forcing a caution. Driver Rick Ware returned the car to the pits and ultimately finished 34th out of 37 starters, marking his worst finish since Bristol in April.
As a result of the loose wheel, RWR’s right-rear tire changer Marquill Osborne and jackman De’Quan Hampton have each been suspended for the next two Cup Series events: the upcoming race at Dover and the subsequent race at Indianapolis.
In addition to the RWR penalties, NASCAR also issued fines for unsecured lug nuts in the Xfinity Series. The teams penalized for this infraction were Richard Childress Racing for the No. 21 Chevrolet driven by Austin Hill, Sam Hunt Racing for the No. 26 Toyota driven by Dean Thompson, and Alpha Prime Racing for the No. 44 Chevrolet driven by Brennan Poole.
