The prefect ‌of Aude issued an evacuation ⁤order Sunday evening, January 18, for ⁢two neighborhoods of Narbonne threatened by heavy ‌rains. These‍ rains prompted France’s southern departments – including Aude – to be placed on ⁢orange‌ alert for rain, flooding, and rising waters.

Residents of single-story homes in the Narbonne neighborhoods⁣ of ⁣maraussan and La Mayolle must evacuate to the sports park or the Narbonne‍ Arena. Those ⁣whose homes have multiple floors should go there as well, according to a statement from the Aude prefecture. The prefect also calls for “the greatest vigilance” in the face of floods deemed “imminent” in this city ⁢of nearly 60,000 inhabitants located close to the Mediterranean Sea.

Aude is under an orange alert for rising waters and rain-induced flooding on Monday, January 19. Three other departments are on orange alert for rain-induced flooding only: Pyrénées-Orientales, Haute-Corse, and Corse-du-Sud.

The orange alert for rain-induced flooding has been lifted in Hérault, Météo-France announced on‍ its website.
