Macksville, NSW – The Nambucca Valley Garden Club (NVGC) hosted author Rachel Burns at their monthly meeting on Saturday, October 11th, at the Macksville Salvation Army Hall. Burns presented her newly released book, “Nambucca Stories,” a collection of 68 historical tales drawn from local newspapers and radio broadcasts.
A dedicated volunteer at the Nambucca Headland Museum, Burns explained the book was compiled with a grant from the Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS), and all proceeds will benefit the museum. She shared that the project’s inspiration stemmed from her dog walks through the Nambucca Heads cemetery. ”it makes a nice stroll; you get a view of the pacific Ocean, see a few kangaroos, kookaburra nests and the Nambucca State Forest, but the old headstones caught most of my attention,” Burns told the garden club members.
“nambucca Stories” is now available for purchase at the Nambucca Headland Museum, the Mary Boulton Museum, and the Bowraville Folk Museum, as well as the Nambucca Bowling Club. Those interested in ordering a copy by post can contact the Nambucca Headland Museum via Facebook or email at info@nambuccaheadlandmuseum.com.au.
the meeting also included a celebration of October birthdays, including that of NVGC member Rueben Wallis.
