Nadeen Flaveney details finding Jesus after New Age and occultism
Nadeen Flaveney, a woman raised in an abusive Muslim household who subsequently immersed herself in New Age practices and the occult, shared her testimony on the “No Longer Nomads” podcast, detailing how she found freedom in Jesus Christ after a drug dealer invited her to church.
A Childhood Marked by Kidnapping and Demonic Encounters
Nadeen’s life began in turmoil within a Muslim household. Her mother discovered the arranged marriage was to an abusive man, and when Nadeen was just one year old, her mother kidnapped her to Jordan to escape him. Five years later, during an unsupervised visitation at a zoo, her father kidnapped her back to the United States.
“I always felt like I was just something passed between them. Not a daughter. Just an object,” Nadeen recalled on the podcast.
Life in her father’s home brought neglect, hunger, shame, and fear. Even as a child, she experienced visits from demonic presences in the night and heard voices no one else could hear. No one believed her cries for help.
Chasing Wealth and the Brink of Despair
As a teen and young adult, Nadeen sought relief from the pain through New Age practices, the occult, a Buddhist monk, parties, and a glamorous nightlife spanning Dubai and Atlanta. She accumulated money, cars, and attention working at a nightclub in Atlanta.
“I had everything—money, cars, attention,” Nadeen said. “But it meant nothing.”
One night, surrounded by piles of cash on her apartment floor, she sobbed and decided she no longer wanted to live. She took a week off work, wrote letters to friends and family, and prepared to jump off a building.
An Invitation from a Drug Dealer and a Life-Changing Verse
Before she carried out her plan, a drug dealer friend invited her to church. Nadeen accepted, attending her first-ever church service wearing a shirt featuring the Virgin Mary and an AK-4 because it was the only garment that covered her.
During the service, the pastor read Matthew 16:26: “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
“My jaw literally dropped and I’m looking around, everyone’s quiet, everyone’s chill, and I’m ready to scream in my chair!” Nadeen said. “I’m thinking to myself, who wrote that? Who is Matthew? What book is this in? What is Matthew’s last name? How does he know so much about me?”
During the altar call that night, Nadeen experienced the love of Jesus, and the torment that had followed her since childhood began to break. She later read the Bible at home and concluded that when she cried out to God, it was Jesus who answered.
Leading Kole Ministries Today
The drug dealer who invited her was just beginning his own journey with Christ. “If that’s not the love of God,” Nadeen noted, “someone dead in sin himself, invited me to church!”
Today, Nadeen is married to her husband, Rotimi, and the couple leads Kole Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping others find freedom through God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.
