“Abbott Elementary” was the leading comedy winner at this year’s awards, taking home the Outstanding Comedy Series prize. The show, created by Quinta Brunson, also secured acting awards for Brunson herself as Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and William Stanford Davis as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
The awards, announced Tuesday, recognized excellence across television, with “Abbott Elementary” standing out among a competitive field that included “Harlem,” “Survival of the Thickest,” “The Residence,” and “The Upshaws.”
Cedric The Entertainer, known for his role in “The Neighborhood,” received the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award. Janelle James of “Abbott Elementary” was recognized as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
In the drama categories, “Bel-Air” earned the title of Outstanding Drama Series. Jabari Banks, the lead in “Bel-Air,” was named Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, while Angela Bassett, for her operate in “9-1-1,” received the award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
Several other programs were also honored. “Ironheart” was recognized as Outstanding Limited Television Series or Movie, with Dominique Thorne receiving the award for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Television Series or Movie for her performance in the series. “Tiny Desk Concerts Celebrates Black Music Month 2025” took the prize for Outstanding Variety Series or Special.
The awards also acknowledged achievements in news and talk programming. “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip” was awarded Outstanding News/Information Series or Special, and Abby Phillip was named Outstanding Host in a Talk or News/Information Series or Special.
Awards were also given for reality and children’s programming. “Dancing with the Stars” was recognized as Outstanding Reality Program/Reality Competition Services/Game Show, and “Eyes of Wakanda” received the award for Outstanding Children’s Program.
The awards also included recognition for breakthrough creative talent, with Chinaka Hodge honored for her work on “Ironheart” as Outstanding Breakthrough Creative.
The ceremony concluded without comment from representatives of the network airing the winning programs regarding future seasons or plans for expanded production.
