New Jersey Gets Its Own Romance Bookstore: A Haven for Book Lovers
Romance readers in the Garden State now have a dedicated sanctuary. **Katie Cunningham**’s Kiss & Tale in Collingswood offers a curated selection of love stories and a welcoming community for those passionate about the genre.
A Dream Realized
The state’s sole brick-and-mortar romance bookstore, Kiss & Tale, opened its doors in October. **Cunningham**, a lifelong aficionado, sought to bring the romance genre to New Jersey, specifically choosing Collingswood as the ideal spot. She established a space for people to explore their passion for romance novels.
The store carries a wide array of genres, including mafia and werewolf tales. Additionally, they have LGBTQ+ books, book-themed merchandise, and reading accessories. The shelves are stocked with popular authors, such as **Emily Henry**, **Christina Lauren**, and **Sarah J. Maas**. Weekly new releases are also available, with author meet-and-greets.
A Thriving Community
The owner says it’s a place to feel accepted. The store’s social media manager, **Jamie Bennett**, is currently enthusiastic about a book boyfriend. The character is a ghost from the early 1900s. The book is by **B.K. Borison**.
“I just love the idea of surrounding myself by things you love, and mine is romance books and people who like to read them,”
— **Katie Cunningham**, Owner, Kiss & Tale
The popularity of romance books has surged. This is thanks to social media, particularly content creators on Instagram and TikTok. Approximately 75 romance-only bookstores were active across the country by spring. (Romancing the Data)
What to Expect
The store’s bestsellers currently include “Till Summer Do Us Part” by **Meghan Quinn**, “Sounds Like Love” by **Ashley Poston**, “Hannah Tate Beyond Repair” by **Laura Piper Lee**, and “The Charmer” by **Ava Rani**.
Beyond the romance bookstore, **Cunningham** also co-owns K&A Bagel Café in Cherry Hill. This allows her to pursue her business passion and engage with her favorite books and other romance readers.
Kiss & Tale’s success reflects romance’s increasing popularity. It also highlights the power of community.
