My Baseball Dream: Playing with Daughter Before She Grows Up

The Chunichi Dragons will continue to call Vantelin Dome Nagoya home for the foreseeable future, a venue that has hosted the team since its opening in 1997. The stadium, originally known as Nagoya Dome, underwent a name change due to a sponsorship agreement with Vantelin.

Located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, the domed stadium has a seating capacity of 36,418 for baseball games, expandable to 49,000 for concerts, according to available data. The stadium’s design incorporates a geodesic dome structure, a feature common among several domed baseball stadiums constructed in Japan during the 1990s.

Vantelin Dome Nagoya is accessible via public transportation, with the Nagoya Dome-mae Yada station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway’s Meijo Line providing direct access. The stadium likewise benefits from proximity to the Ozone station on the Chuo Main line, though that requires a roughly 20-minute walk.

Beyond serving as the primary home field for the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball’s Central League, the stadium has also hosted other teams, including the Orix BlueWave and Kintetsu Buffaloes. In 2024, it served as a venue for a group stage game in the WBSC Premier12 tournament. The Dragons previously played at Nagoya Stadium, the location where scenes from the film Mr. Baseball, starring Tom Selleck, were filmed. The farm team currently plays at that older stadium.

The field dimensions at Vantelin Dome Nagoya are 100 meters (328.1 feet) to left and right field, and 122 meters (400.3 feet) to center field, with an outfield fence height of 4.8 meters (15.7 feet). The high outfield walls contribute to a lower frequency of home runs compared to other NPB stadiums.

The stadium offers a variety of food and beverage options, including both local and Western-style eateries, within its concourse areas. The seating arrangement provides good sightlines from most locations within the dome.
