The season-ending Nitto ATP‍ Finals are set to begin this Sunday,⁢ but will feature a late roster change.

Lorenzo Musetti has earned a direct entry into the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals following the withdrawal of Novak Djokovic due to a shoulder injury. Musetti will take Djokovic’s⁤ place in ⁢the Jimmy Connors Group,with Alexander Bublik now designated ⁤as the first reserve.

Musetti’s Breakthrough Season

The 23-year-old Musetti has enjoyed a career-best season, marked by significant​ tournament success. He reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo and followed that with semi-final appearances in Madrid, Rome, and‌ Roland Garros, solidifying his position as a top ‍contender.

Musetti’s strong form continued through the fall, including ⁣a quarter-final showing at the US Open, a final appearance in Chengdu, a semi-final in Vienna, and another final in Athens.

Historic Italian Depiction

This year marks the first time two Italian players have qualified for the⁤ same edition of the Nitto ATP Finals. in 2021, Matteo Berrettini initially qualified but was forced to withdraw⁣ during the group stage, creating an ‍possibility for Jannik Sinner⁤ to enter the tournament as a reserve.

Djokovic’s Record-Equaling Qualification
