Ms. Rachel Urges Wealthy White Celebrities to Match $1M Gaza Donation
Children’s YouTube entertainer Rachel Accurso, widely known as Ms. Rachel, announced a $1 million matching pledge for Palestinian humanitarian relief on Thursday. Accurso publicly challenged wealthy White celebrities to follow her lead following the removal of singer Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s tour over pro-Palestinian activism.
The Financial Fallout of Tour Cancellations and Endorsement Pressure
The controversy began when rapper Macklemore was dropped from the remainder of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour on Monday following a September 4 performance at MetLife Stadium. During that show, the 43-year-old artist performed his anti-Israel song “Hind’s Hall” and repeatedly called for a “Free Palestine.”

In response to being removed from the lineup, Macklemore announced he would donate the entirety of his earnings from the tour—totaling $1 million—to six distinct aid organizations. These include the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), HEAL Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, UNRWA USA National Committee, and American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA).
Public Challenges and Corporate Philanthropy Metrics
Following Macklemore’s financial pledge, the dispute expanded into a public challenge directed at venue owners. Macklemore directly challenged New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, whose Kraft Group owns Gillette Stadium, after Kraft reportedly declined to host the rapper due to his activism. According to Fox News, Kraft responded by noting that he had already committed $2 million to humanitarian assistance in the region, drawing on his established philanthropic track record in the Middle East.

Inserting herself into the escalating public debate, Rachel Accurso declared via social media that she would match Macklemore’s $1 million donation. As reported by Fox News, Accurso directed her comments specifically toward affluent demographics within the entertainment industry. “I will match Macklemore’s donation and I invite every wealthy white celebrity to match it and speak out against the genocide in Gaza,” Accurso wrote, adding that her funds would be routed to the PCRF.
Accurso argued that celebrities possess a moral obligation to leverage their platform and financial privilege during humanitarian crises. Pointing to casualty estimates, she asserted that over 20,000 Palestinian children have been killed during the ongoing conflict, stating that treating certain children’s lives as less worthy of outrage constitutes racism.
Diverging Media Narratives and Institutional Pushback
The intersection of children’s entertainment and geopolitical advocacy has triggered sharp divisions among public commentators and advocacy groups. While Accurso has increasingly utilized her massive digital footprint—built primarily through early-learning videos for toddlers—to champion progressive political causes, critics have questioned her framing and distribution of focus.

Fox News highlighted statements from Rabbi Yaakov Menken, executive vice president of the Coalition for Jewish Values, who criticized the proportionality of Accurso’s activism. Menken argued that while severe malnutrition affects millions of children globally across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, a disproportionate share of public commentary concentrates on Gaza, while noting that commentary regarding Israeli children held hostage emerged only months into the conflict after mounting public pressure.
Concurrently, media personalities such as Bill Maher criticized Macklemore’s stance, arguing that celebrity moral confusion contributes to rising antisemitism. Pro-Israel organizations have similarly accused Accurso of disseminating anti-Israel rhetoric by repeatedly labeling the military actions as genocide.
