MP’s Wife: Nuclear Base ‘Drunken Incident’ & Spy Link

March 31, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Joani Reid, the wife of a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom, has been reported for “inappropriate conduct” following an incident at the Faslane naval base, according to reports. The allegation centers around behavior with a senior naval officer involved in the UK’s nuclear submarine program.

The incident reportedly occurred during a visit to the HMNB Clyde base, often referred to as Faslane, last year. Details remain scarce, but the report to authorities suggests the conduct was deemed inappropriate given the sensitive nature of the officer’s work. Faslane is home to the UK’s fleet of Vanguard-class submarines, which carry the country’s nuclear deterrent.

Reid is married to Conservative MP Joani Reid, who represents the constituency of North East Hampshire. The allegations surfaced on social media Tuesday, with Anna Mikhailova, a political commentator, sharing details on X (formerly Twitter).

The timing of the report comes amid heightened security concerns regarding espionage and the protection of critical infrastructure. In recent years, several individuals have been arrested on suspicion of spying, including two men believed to be Iranian agents apprehended near the same Faslane base in 2024, according to reports from The Sun. Those arrests involved a 34-year-classic man and a 31-year-old woman attempting to enter the facility.

The case also echoes past incidents involving alleged foreign interference. Maria Butina, a Russian national, was convicted in the United States in 2018 of acting as an unregistered foreign agent after attempting to infiltrate US political circles. Butina, who worked as an assistant to a former Russian official, sought to establish lines of communication with American politicians.

Separately, a US Navy nuclear engineer and his wife were sentenced to lengthy prison terms in 2022 for attempting to sell classified information about nuclear submarines to a foreign government. The couple allegedly concealed the information in everyday items like chewing gum wrappers and peanut butter jars.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the report against Reid, and no charges have been filed. The Ministry of Defence has not yet issued a statement. The MP has not publicly commented on the allegations as of Tuesday evening.
