Second Chance for Movie Discounts: Remaining Tickets to be Re-distributed
Moviegoers have another opportunity to enjoy discounted tickets,as the Ministry of Culture,Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Film Promotion Committee (FPC) announced a re-distribution of approximately 1.18 million remaining 6,000 won discount vouchers starting at 10:00 AM on September 8th. This initiative follows a accomplished initial distribution on July 25th, funded by a second additional budget of 27.1 billion won aimed at bolstering public interest and revitalizing the film industry.
The first distribution period, from July 25th to September 2nd, saw a significant increase in theater attendance. Daily audiences averaged around 435,000, representing an 1.8-fold increase compared to the daily average between January 1st and July 24th. A policy officer from the MCST expressed optimism, stating the ministry will continue efforts to sustain this positive momentum.this second distribution focuses on utilizing unused vouchers from the initial release.Discount tickets will be available through major chains including CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, and Cinecyu (Q) Nuri House, and also a wide range of smaller venues like independant cinemas, art houses, and silver cinemas.
To encourage quicker usage, the re-distribution will operate on a strict first-come, first-served basis. Vouchers will be automatically applied as online membership coupons within each theater’s system. Though, once a theater’s allocation is fatigued, the discount will no longer be available, and any remaining unused vouchers in individual member accounts will be forfeited.
The terms of use remain largely consistent: online members of multiplex theaters can utilize up to two discount tickets each, regardless of nationality, provided they have a membership. Those without memberships, including foreigners, can access the discount at most cinemas, independent art films, and smaller theaters without needing to sign up. The 6,000 won discount applies equally to both general screenings and special theater films.
For those unfamiliar with online booking or app usage, a thorough guide window is available at 070-4027-0279.Further details regarding the discount tickets can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
