Motorola pivots to high-end materials for Signature 27 launch

Motorola is preparing to overhaul its flagship lineup with the Signature 27, scheduled for a global rollout following a November 5 presentation. The device was first teased during the Snapdragon Summit on September 22, where the manufacturer offered an early look at its high-end specifications. The device is built with an aluminum frame, and its rear is made with ceramic and glass. Motorola will offer two distinct finishes: “Coal Smoke,” featuring a gray tactical textile, and “Capulet Olive,” which draws inspiration from green fabric designs.

A shift in display technology and processing power

The Signature 27 debuts an “Extreme AMOLED Duo” display. The panel utilizes tandem technology—stacking two emissive layers—to achieve a peak brightness of 12,000 nits. While the previous generation favored a 165Hz refresh rate, the new model moves to a 120Hz panel. Performance is driven by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, a 2nm chip that replaces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 of the original Signature. This new silicon is designed to enhance mobile gaming, camera experiences, and artificial intelligence tasks.

To regulate the heat generated by the new processor, Motorola has deployed an ArcticMesh cooling system. The assembly features a 3D vapor chamber 40% larger than its predecessor, reinforced by thermal gel containing diamond particles and a copper mesh. The system also integrates liquid metal to manage thermal output during demanding workloads.

Introducing motorola signature 27

Signature 27 introduces advanced camera sensors

The Signature 27 enters the market with a DXOMARK Gold Label imaging system. The primary 50MP Sony LYTIA L910 sensor incorporates LOFIC technology to deliver improved imaging. The periscope lens now houses a 200MP sensor with an AI-driven Super Zoom of up to 100x, a significant increase from the 50MP telephoto lens found in the previous model. The periscope system provides 5x optical zoom.

Additional imaging tools include a dedicated “Action” sensor for tracking fast-moving subjects. The array is completed by a 50MP ultra-wide lens, which uses pixel-binning to produce 12.5MP images, and a 50MP front-facing camera capable of 4K recording. The camera system also supports 8K video recording at 30 fps with Dolby Vision, alongside OIS stabilization and Qualcomm’s electronic image stabilization.

Expanded battery capacity and software integration

Powering the device is a 7,000 mAh battery, up from the 5,200 mAh cell used in the original Signature. Charging speeds remain unchanged, holding at 90W for wired and 50W for wireless connections. According to the manufacturer, a 12-minute wired charge provides enough power for a full day of use, while a wireless charge takes 80 minutes.

The Signature 27 launches on Android 17 with a seven-year commitment for both security and operating system updates. The device also includes a sound system developed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen and introduces compatibility with GrapheneOS.

Expected pricing starts at higher tiers

While official pricing will fluctuate by region, reports suggest the device will launch in the neighborhood of 1,595 to 1,899 euros, a significant jump from the 999 euro starting price of the first-generation model. Current information indicates a configuration featuring 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, though the device supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Motorola has yet to confirm a detailed retail availability schedule beyond the November 5 event, leaving questions regarding specific country-by-country launch dates and final pricing tiers unanswered.
