Bangkok Gears Up for Queen Sirikit‘s Birthday & Mother’s Day Celebrations – august 12, 2025

Bangkok, August 19, 2024 – Preparations are underway across Bangkok for the upcoming birthday of Queen Sirikit, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, and Thailand’s Mother’s Day on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The government has announced a series of commemorative events, including religious ceremonies, charitable activities, and extensive decorative light displays.

The Prime Minister’s Office,through spokesman Mr. Jirayu Wonasup,detailed plans for a nationwide observance of the Queen Mother’s benevolence and dedication to the Thai people. These events will include Buddhist ceremonies, merit-making activities, and alms-giving to royal charities. A formal ceremony to pay respects and light candles will be held at Sanam Luang, with citizens encouraged to participate in similar activities organized by various agencies throughout the country.

Mr. Jirayu also announced that the next Cabinet meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025, following notification from the Secretariat of the Cabinet.

Beyond the religious and ceremonial observances, Bangkok will be illuminated with a impressive display of decorative lights. The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) will install over two million lights adorning key locations including Amporn Hall of the Royal Palace, the grand Palace, Sanam Luang, areas surrounding the Chitra Ladan Palace, the Royal Horse Courtyard, the Ministry of Interior, and along Ratchadamnoen Nai, Klang, and Nok Roads, as well as Sri Ayutthaya Road.These lights will be on display from August 10th to August 19th, 2025, between 6:00 PM and midnight each day.

The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) will also contribute to the festive atmosphere by illuminating twelve bridges across the Chao Phraya River in the Bangkok metropolitan area. These include the Maha Jesad Bridge, Dinnanusorn bridge, Krungthan Bridge (Sang Hi), Phra Buddha Yod Fa Bridge, king Prajadhipok Bridge, King Taksin Bridge, Bhumibol Bridge 1 & 2, Bangkok Bridge, Rama 3 Bridge, Rama 4 Bridge, Rama 5 Bridge, and Rama VII Bridge. Lights will be on from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM from august 10th to August 13th, extending to 12:00 AM on August 13th.

Deputy spokesman Mr. anukul Pruksanusak emphasized that these displays are offered free of charge to the public,providing an opportunity for both residents and tourists to experience the beauty and celebrate the occasion. The government hopes the decorations will foster a celebratory atmosphere and promote awareness of the Queen Mother’s contributions to Thailand.
