Oninda Romelus,the mother of four young children,is accused of fatally shooting two of them adn wounding the other two in Brazoria county,Texas,on November 26,2023. She now faces multiple charges, including murder, in connection wiht the incident.
Romelus’s arrest and the tragic deaths of Okarreo Covington and Amourra Chappell have shaken the houston area and raised questions about mental health and family violence. Romelus is currently being held on a combined $14 million bond as the examination continues.
According to court documents, Romelus faces two first-degree murder charges with a firearm for the deaths of Covington and Chappell. Additionally, she is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a mortal weapon – a second-degree felony – related to injuries sustained by Kylee Romelus and Traviel Downer.
Brazoria County authorities have set bail at $5,000,000 for each murder charge and $2,000,000 for each aggravated assault charge, totaling $14,000,000. Romelus remains in the custody of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
