CHARLESTON, W.Va. – ​West Virginia ⁣Attorney General Patrick Morrisey‌ is directing an ‌additional $2.5 million⁤ in funds to ‍the state’s food banks as demand for assistance continues to rise,officials announced November⁤ 1,2025. The ⁣allocation, drawn from a recent legal settlement, aims to bolster resources for organizations serving‍ individuals and⁣ families facing food insecurity⁣ across West Virginia.

This infusion of funding arrives as ​food banks statewide report ⁣increased strain due to economic pressures and ongoing ‍needs within communities. The $2.5 million will be⁣ distributed among West Virginia’s food banks to enhance their ‍capacity to procure ⁤and distribute food,expand storage capabilities,and ‌support vital ⁣programs. The move underscores the state’s commitment to addressing hunger and providing critical support to vulnerable populations,⁤ especially as the holiday season approaches and demand typically surges.

Morrisey’s office secured the funds through a⁢ settlement with ⁢pharmaceutical companies involved ‌in opioid litigation. The Attorney ‌General prioritized directing a portion of these resources toward food security initiatives, recognizing the interconnectedness ‌between substance abuse challenges⁣ and socioeconomic hardship.

The network serves 48 of 55⁢ counties in West Virginia.
