Morpurgo Gym Reopens After €130,000 renovation, Serving Over 1,100 Students
Scala Campi Elisi, [date – insert current date] – The recently renovated Morpurgo gym, located at Scala Campi Elisi 4, is now open following a €130,000 investment to address significant flooring issues. The facility will serve the 1,177 students of the ”Campi Elisi” Extensive Institute during school hours and will be available to local sports associations,including ASD Center Game Sport Antonio Coselli,in the afternoons and evenings.
The gym has already received approval to host regional volleyball competitions and is anticipated to be certified for basketball events shortly,according to city officials.
The renovation project, completed by contractor Cerbone Giovanni and Figli Srl, addressed sagging parquet flooring that had developed in recent years. following initial repairs at the end of 2024 wich revealed further issues, the existing flooring was wholly demolished and replaced. Rusty piping was also replaced with new PVC pipes while maintaining functional multiplasses.
Crucially, the project included restoration of the roofS waterproofing membrane. Detachment of the membrane had led to water infiltration affecting both the gym interior and the adjacent porch.
“The gym serves until 16:00 the 1,177 students of the “Campi Elisi” Comprehensive Institute,” explained City Councilor for Public Works Elisa Lodi at a press conference. “And in the afternoon and evening hours it will be used by the ASD Center Game Sport Antonio Coselli and other associations.”
Looking ahead,Lodi stated that the city is currently evaluating costs for further improvements to a decorated section of the gym. Additionally, the San Giovanni gym is slated to open at the end of October.This new facility will accommodate basketball, volleyball, and five-a-side football, with a capacity of up to 99 spectators and full accessibility, aiming to meet the growing needs of local sports clubs.
“We are deepening the costs relating to the new intervention that we would like to carry out in the gym decorated while at the end of October we plan to open the San Giovanni gym where the latest processes are proceeding,” lodi said. “It will be a gym for basketball, volleyball and even five -a -side football, with capacity of up to 99 seats without architectural barriers, with which we plan to respond to the needs of sports clubs.”
