Morocco Floods: $330M Aid Plan & Disaster Relief Details

by Emma Walker – News Editor

The Moroccan government has allocated 3 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $330 million USD) to a comprehensive relief plan for regions impacted by recent flooding, according to official statements released this week.

The aid package, authorized under the High Royal Instructions of King Mohammed VI, aims to support families and communities affected by severe weather events. The program encompasses a wide range of assistance measures, details of which are still being finalized, but are expected to include financial aid and emergency supplies.

Authorities are currently working to assess the full extent of the damage and identify those most in require of assistance. The government has initiated procedures to officially declare the affected zones as disaster areas, a step necessary to activate indemnification and expedite the delivery of emergency aid, as highlighted by a human rights organization following the floods, according to fesnews.media.

The 3 billion dirham budget will be used to address immediate needs and support longer-term recovery efforts. Specific details regarding the allocation of funds to different sectors, such as housing, infrastructure, and agriculture, are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Fonds de Solidarité contre les Événements Catastrophiques, a solidarity fund for catastrophic events, is expected to play a key role in the distribution of aid. The government has not yet specified the criteria for eligibility for assistance, but officials have indicated that priority will be given to vulnerable populations and those who have suffered significant losses.

The scale of the flooding, described as “great waters” returning in 2026 by Le Desk, prompted the rapid government response. The program of aid and support is intended to provide immediate relief to those affected and to help rebuild communities impacted by the disaster.

As of today, the government has not announced a timeline for the completion of the relief and recovery efforts, and further assessments are ongoing.
