Morocco, a co-organizer of the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, faces accusations of widespread cruelty towards stray dogs.Singer David Hallyday and the animal rights organization PETA have written to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, detailing alleged atrocities. These include the shooting of dogs in front of witnesses, including children, as well as poisoning, burning, and abandonment of animals in cages without sustenance.
Hallyday expressed his distress, stating, “The idea that dogs like those with whom I share my life, Phoenix and Cooper, must fight to survive in the street, without having done anything wrong to then be cruelly killed by humans filled me with sadness and anger.” He believes FIFA, founded on principles of equity, must address the ongoing “bloodbath.”
PETA and Hallyday are urging FIFA to condemn these actions and impose sanctions on Morocco if the animal abuse continues. Hallyday specifically requests that FIFA pressure Morocco to cease the dog massacres or suspend its co-organizing status. He further described the inhumane treatment, including dogs being terrorized, made homeless due to a lack of sterilization and protection, captured with metal pliers, and left to die in cages.
The singer also highlighted the psychological impact on children who witness these acts, stating it violates their essential right to be protected from violence.
