Cuernavaca,Morelos – September 24,2025 - The Morelos Health ⁣Services (SSM) is urging residents to take⁤ preventative measures against whooping cough (pertussis),a⁤ highly contagious respiratory illness, notably⁤ for young⁢ children. As of epidemiological week ⁣36, 43 confirmed cases have been reported in the state, with no fatalities.

Karen Mariana Román ‍Brito, SSM’s State Manager of Epidemiological Surveillance, emphasized the⁣ importance of early ⁣detection and protection against the disease to prevent complications. ⁤”With the onset of the rainy season,we⁣ are seeing increased circulation of the bacteria causing whooping cough. This poses ⁢a greater risk to infants, children, and the elderly,” she ⁣stated.

The SSM highlights vaccination as the most‌ effective defense ⁢against whooping cough. The vaccine is readily available and free of charge at all health centers throughout‍ Morelos. ‍residents are encouraged to⁣ visit a health center with their‌ vaccination card to ⁤ensure‌ their immunization schedule is up-to-date.

Along with⁣ vaccination, health officials recommend practicing good hygiene. This includes frequent⁣ handwashing⁤ with⁤ soap and water ⁣or using a 70% alcohol-based⁢ hand sanitizer,‌ covering the mouth and nose⁢ when coughing or sneezing, avoiding close contact with ⁢individuals exhibiting ‍symptoms, and ensuring ‌adequate ventilation in indoor spaces.

Authorities stress that prompt medical attention is crucial for ⁤anyone experiencing persistent coughing or othre ⁣symptoms⁢ suggestive of whooping cough. Continued vigilance and preventative action are vital to protect the community during‌ this period of increased circulation.
