Mora IK Bolsters Goaltending with Loaned Keeper Following suspension
Mora, Sweden – Following a two-game suspension handed to starting goaltender Marcus Hellgren Smed for an incident during a HockeyAllsvenskan game against MoDo, Mora IK has secured 24-year-old Marcus Nygren on loan from HockeyEttan‘s Falu IF. The move addresses an immediate need in net as Mora prepares to face Nybro and Troja-Ljungby this week.
Hellgren Smed received a match penalty and was reported to the disciplinary committee after kicking MoDo defender Hugo hallin following a game on November 17th. The disciplinary committee’s decision, announced Monday, resulted in a two-game suspension for Hellgren Smed.
Nygren arrives with recent strong performances for Falu IF,boasting a 92.17% save percentage over his last ten games. “Nygren has been responsible for strong performances in Falu IF… It will be engaging to see him in Mora IK during the week.We extend a big thank you to Falu IF for a good collaboration,” Mora IK stated on its homepage.
Notably, Nygren is a former MoDo Hockey junior player, having appeared in nine HockeyAllsvenskan games for the club during the 2022/23 season before MoDo’s promotion to the SHL. He rejoined the sport this year with Falu IF after missing the entire 2023/24 season due to injury.
Mora IK currently sits twelfth in the HockeyAllsvenskan standings with 18 points in 18 games, amidst a seven-game losing streak.The team will now rely on a goaltending tandem of Tobias Johansen Breivold and marcus Nygren for the upcoming matches.
