MoonHack: Cyber-Noir Adventure Coming Exclusively to PC in 2027
Neon Noir Games, a studio known for its 2021 title “Neon Shadows,” announced on Thursday the release of its upcoming cyber-noir adventure game “MoonHack” for PC in 2027, according to a statement shared by the company’s official website. The project, first teased in a 2023 developer diary, will focus on narrative-driven hacking mechanics and a storyline set against a dystopian lunar colony, the studio confirmed.
The game’s announcement coincided with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $2 million within its first 48 hours, according to a funding update published by the platform. The campaign’s goal of $5 million remains active, with backers receiving early access to the game’s beta and exclusive in-game content. Neon Noir Games’ co-founder, Marcus Lin, stated in a press release that the project aims to “redefine the cyber-noir genre by blending immersive storytelling with real-time hacking challenges.”
Details about the game’s setting and mechanics were outlined in a developer blog post, which described a narrative centered on corporate espionage and digital privacy. The story follows a rogue hacker, Kael Veyra, who uncovers a conspiracy involving a lunar mining corporation, according to the blog. The game’s design team, composed of veterans from studios like CD Projekt Red and Obsidian Entertainment, has emphasized “dynamic player choices” that influence the plot’s outcome, the blog noted.
Elena Voss, the studio’s lead narrative designer, highlighted the game’s thematic focus on “the ethical dilemmas of technological advancement” in an interview with PC Gamer. “We want players to question the cost of progress in a world where data is power,” she said. The interview, published on April 5, 2024, also revealed that the game’s soundtrack will feature collaborations with electronic music artists known for their work in cyberpunk media.
Neon Noir Games has not yet disclosed a release window beyond 2027, though the Kickstarter campaign includes a “soft launch” phase for early access in late 2026. The studio’s previous project, “Neon Shadows,” received critical acclaim for its “tense atmosphere and layered character arcs,” according to a 2021 review by GameSpot. The success of the Kickstarter campaign has drawn comparisons to other crowdfunded titles, such as “Starfield,” which raised $10 million in pre-orders but faced delays in its 2023 launch.
The game’s exclusive PC release has sparked discussions about platform strategies in the gaming industry, with some analysts noting that “MoonHack’s focus on PC hardware capabilities aligns with the genre’s demand for high-performance systems,” according to a March 2024 report by The Game Industry Journal. No official word has been released about potential console versions or cross-platform support.

Neon Noir Games’ next major update, scheduled for June 2024, will include a playable demo of the game’s hacking mechanics, according to a statement on the studio’s Discord server. The demo will be available to Kickstarter backers and subscribers to the studio’s newsletter.
