Canadiens GM Hughes Sought Defender’s Scouting Report on Potential Trade Target
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes reportedly sought input from defenseman Kaiden Guhle regarding a potential acquisition at the trade deadline,according to information revealed today. Hughes approached guhle for insights on an opposing forward the team was considering adding to its roster.
The GM’s inquiry centered on a player Guhle described as a “very good player” who excels at both ends of the ice. Guhle characterized the forward as a “tireless monster,” possessing significant strength and offensive capabilities, while also being smart and consistently productive – maintaining a near point-per-game pace at the time of their conversation. Guhle estimated the player’s size to be approximately 5’11” and 185 pounds, also noting his robustness.
While the potential transaction ultimately did not occur, Hughes demonstrated a clear interest in acquiring the unnamed player. This practice of consulting players on potential additions highlights a collaborative approach to team building within the Canadiens organization.
Hughes was also known to have engaged in discussions with Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators regarding player availability prior to the deadline. Nashville ultimately traded Gustav Nyquist to Minnesota on march 1, tommy Novak and Hatch Schenn to Pittsburgh on March 5, and Mark Jankowski to Carolina on March 7.
