Singapore‘s Ministry of Health (MOH) has ordered Cordlife to cease the collection of new cord blood units, marking a further setback for the embattled company. The directive, issued on Wednesday, Oct 25, follows ongoing investigations into mishandled cord blood units and comes after the company was initially instructed to stop processing cord blood on Oct 19, saeid on Oct 27. Thereafter, the ministry said the company would “require time to satisfactorily address the outstanding issues”.
The halt in collection impacts expectant parents who rely on cord blood banking for potential future medical uses. Cordlife, a private cord blood bank, has been under scrutiny following revelations of temperature excursions affecting the viability of a meaningful number of stored units. The MOH’s actions underscore growing concerns about the safety and integrity of cord blood banking services in Singapore and raise questions about the future of Cordlife’s operations.Shares of Cordlife ended Wednesday flat at S$0.16.
