New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on sunday expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his birthday greetings, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the “Special and Privileged strategic Partnership” between the two nations. The exchange occurred as Modi celebrated his 75th birthday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi thanked President Putin for the phone call and warm wishes, stating the gesture “is a reflection of the deep bond between the two nations.” He also reiterated India’s desire for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, adding, “India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”
Earlier Sunday, President Putin extended birthday greetings to PM Modi, praising his personal role in bolstering bilateral ties. According to a congratulatory Telegram message published on the Kremlin‘s website and reported by izvestia Multimedia Information Center (Izvestia MIC), Putin stated, “You are making a great personal contribution to strengthening the especially privileged strategic partnership between our countries and to developing mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation in various areas.”
The exchange comes amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts by India and as several other world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, also conveyed birthday wishes to PM Modi on Wednesday. Notably, US President Donald Trump also called Modi on his birthday, a conversation that has raised hopes for a potential improvement in India-US trade relations following recent tariff disputes.
