Modders Unlock RTX 50 DLSS Multi Frame Generation for RTX 40 GPUs
Modders have successfully bypassed NVIDIA’s software restrictions to run DLSS Multi-Frame Generation on GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards, achieving 3X and 4X frame generation rates previously restricted to the newer RTX 50-series hardware, according to reports from Tweakers, Tom’s Hardware, and Tbreak.
Hardware claims challenged by Ada Lovelace adaptation
When NVIDIA introduced DLSS Multi-Frame Generation with its Blackwell architecture, the company stated that the feature required hardware capabilities exclusive to the RTX 50 series.
Specifically, NVIDIA claimed that RTX 40-series GPUs relied on a hardware optical flow generator incapable of producing multiple interpolated frames per rendered frame, whereas Blackwell utilized a software-based optical flow method executed directly on GPU shader cores.
Creator dashdogy deploys Cyberpunk 2077 workaround
Tech-savvy developers tested this limitation by adapting the software method for Ada Lovelace hardware.
According to Tom’s Hardware, creator “dashdogy” released a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that backports Blackwell-specific frame timing instructions to allow RTX 40-series cards to place generated frames in correct positions. This technique evolved into a ReShade plugin and other variations that function across multiple DirectX 12 and Vulkan titles, as documented by Tbreak and software release notes.
NVIDIA App over-the-air blocks met with rapid community counter-patches
NVIDIA attempted to block these unauthorized workarounds by pushing an over-the-air update via the NVIDIA App that altered the temporal kernel name and descriptor layout in the DLSS-G 310.9 provider, according to Tom’s Hardware and Tbreak. The update temporarily broke existing unlocks for users running the updated components.
Within hours of the deployment, community developers released updates restoring Ada temporal-position correction, fixing frame pacing, and eliminating near-duplicate frames at higher multipliers, as noted in GitHub release history cited by Tbreak.
In-memory ReShade add-ons carry experimental risks
Projects such as MFGAdaUnlock operate entirely as in-memory ReShade add-ons without modifying NVIDIA files on disk.

Despite the functional workarounds, community developers and users note that the unofficial implementation remains experimental. According to Tbreak, higher multipliers can cause graphical artifacts, black screens, or game crashes, and increased latency can occur depending on the title and active software stack.
