Missouri Redistricting: Maps, Special Session & Kansas City Impact

by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Missouri lawmakers have unveiled ‍proposed congressional⁣ redistricting maps ⁣that could considerably alter the political landscape⁣ for voters in the Kansas city area and across the state. State Senator Denny Kehoe announced the “Missouri First” maps on Friday, September 6, 2024,⁢ initiating a⁣ period of public review and potential revisions before the plans are finalized.

The redrawing of Missouri’s eight congressional districts, required every ten years following the U.S. Census, determines which communities are grouped ‌together ⁢for ‌federal representation. These new boundaries could impact election outcomes, shifting the⁢ balance of power in‍ congress ⁢and influencing the types‍ of issues ⁣prioritized by Missouri’s representatives.‍ The proposed maps are available for public review at https://house.mo.gov/BillMobile.aspx?year=2025&code=S2&bill=HB1.

The maps outline changes to districts statewide, wiht a particular focus on the Kansas City metropolitan area. KSHB has published maps illustrating the ‌proposed changes.
