STATE DEFENDS HUMPHREY COLISEUM WITH 75-68 VICTORY OVER SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State overcame a late Southeastern Louisiana rally to secure a 75-68 win Saturday afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum, improving their season record to 2-1. The Bulldogs built a 40-35 halftime lead and extended it to as many as 17 points in the second half before the Lions mounted a comeback,narrowing the gap to six points on three occasions in the final 1:24.
Under head coach Chris Jans, Mississippi State has now achieved a 37-4 record against non-SEC opponents during the regular season.
Shawn Jones Jr. paced the Bulldogs with a career-high 17 points,including three 3-pointers,along with six rebounds and three assists. Josh Hubbard contributed 15 points and four assists. Mississippi State dominated the boards, outrebounding Southeastern Louisiana 43-33, and recorded 18 assists as a team.
The Bulldogs will next travel to kansas City, Missouri, to participate in the Hall of Fame Classic, where they will face Kansas State on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CT on Peacock.
