Missing Rock Climber Search Continues in Baltimore, Co Cork

Search⁢ Resumes for Missing Rock Climber​ in ⁤Baltimore,Co. Cork

A⁤ large-scale search operation has resumed this morning in Baltimore, County Cork, for a 27-year-old man from Italy who went missing yesterday while rock climbing. Concerns were raised last night when the‍ climber ⁢failed to return⁤ and could not be contacted.

Timeline of Events

The alarm was initially raised⁢ at 8:20⁢ PM by the climber’s girlfriend, who reported him missing after he had been climbing at Eastern Hall in ‍Baltimore Harbour. ‍She became worried after several hours passed without communication.

Search teams discovered some⁢ of​ the climber’s gear⁤ at the top of the cliffs, prompting an immediate ⁤and extensive response.

Extensive Search Operation

The search is being ​coordinated⁤ by the Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination​ Center in Valentia, County Kerry. Two Coast Guard helicopters,‍ Rescue 115 from Shannon and ‍Rescue 117 ‍from Waterford, were deployed to assist in the operation.

Both baltimore RNLI lifeboats ‌- an all-weather and an inshore vessel – participated ‌in the search until ⁢midnight. Ground teams included the Coast Guard team based at​ Toe Head,​ a ⁣Civil Defense⁣ drone team, and‍ members of the Gardaí.

The search resumed at dawn today, but as of this report, ⁣the climber​ remains missing.
