Bismarck, ND - A strong offensive performance from Carson Yale wasn’t enough as teh Minot State Beavers (3-2, 0-1) fell to the Mary Marauders 78-73 on Saturday. Yale led all scorers with 20 points, adding six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in the contest.
the Beavers started strong, opening the game with a 14-0 run and leading 33-26 at halftime, fueled by 20 points in the paint. However, Mary outscored Minot State 47-23 in the second half to secure the victory.
Isaiah alexander contributed 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists for Minot State, while Deuce Benjamin added 14 points and six assists. The Beavers’ offence showcased strong ball movement, assisting on 83 percent of their made field goals. Minot State also controlled the offensive glass,securing 13 offensive rebounds resulting in eight second-chance points.
Despite holding Mary to 33.8 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc, the Beavers couldn’t overcome the Marauders’ second-half surge.
“We let one get away from us – you’ve got to have some grate toughness on the road,” said Head Coach Randall Herbst. “Momentum can be good and bad. Had a pretty good 25 minutes of play but gave the opponent way too many extra possessions and opportunities on the glass, and with turnovers.We lost the battle of 50/50 balls as well. stay together and keep fighting.”
Sean De Kovachich pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for Minot State. The Beavers recorded five blocks as a team.
