Minor injuries in Seymour tractor‑trailer crash on Route 8
SEYMOUR, CT – The Connecticut State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Seymour on January 20, 2026. The incident began with a reported domestic dispute that escalated into a confrontation with law enforcement.
According to state police,officers responded to a residence on Derby Avenue around 8:00 PM following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect, identified as 38-year-old Michael Davis, who allegedly brandished a firearm. A verbal exchange ensued, but Davis refused to comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapon.
“At some point during the encounter, an officer discharged their firearm, striking Davis,” stated Sergeant Stephanie Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Connecticut State Police. Davis was immediately provided with medical attention at the scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown as of January 21, 2026.
No officers were injured during the incident. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave,per standard protocol. The State Police Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, which includes a thorough review of body camera footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence.

Seymour Police Chief michael Musilli confirmed his department is cooperating fully with the State police investigation. He declined to comment further, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots. Neighbors described the neighborhood as generally quiet and expressed shock at the incident.
