Twins Part Ways with Manager Rocco Baldelli After Seven Seasons

Minneapolis, MN ⁤ – The Minnesota Twins announced Monday they have fired⁢ manager Rocco Baldelli following a disappointing 70-92 season. The ‌decision ends Baldelli’s ⁢seven-year tenure with⁣ the club, during which the Twins won a division title in 2020⁢ but struggled to maintain⁢ consistent⁣ success.

The move comes ⁣as the Twins look to revitalize a team that has underperformed expectations in recent ‌years. Despite a promising start to the‍ 2024 season, Minnesota faltered down ‍the⁢ stretch, ‍finishing last in the American League Central. The institution⁢ is now tasked with finding ⁤a⁣ new⁢ leader to guide the⁣ team back to ⁣contention in a competitive division.

“Over the past seven years, Rocco has been much more than our manager. He has been a trusted partner and teammate to⁤ me in ⁤leading this organization,” said Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey ⁢in a statement. “Together we ‍shared ‍a deep care for the Twins, for our players and staff, ⁤and for doing everything ‍in⁢ our power‍ to ⁢put⁢ this ‌club in the best position to succeed.”

Baldelli, 63, took the helm in‍ 2019, inheriting a team in transition. He guided the Twins to⁣ a 101-61 record and ‌an American League Division Series appearance in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. However, the team failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs in both⁣ 2020 and 2023, ⁤and finished with losing records in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

The Twins have⁤ begun ⁢the search for Baldelli’s⁤ replacement, with no immediate timeline for a hire. The team will evaluate both internal and external candidates as they seek a manager to⁣ lead them toward sustained success.
