Twins Part Ways with Manager Rocco Baldelli After Seven Seasons
Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced Monday they have fired manager Rocco Baldelli following a disappointing 70-92 season. The decision ends Baldelli’s seven-year tenure with the club, during which the Twins won a division title in 2020 but struggled to maintain consistent success.
The move comes as the Twins look to revitalize a team that has underperformed expectations in recent years. Despite a promising start to the 2024 season, Minnesota faltered down the stretch, finishing last in the American League Central. The institution is now tasked with finding a new leader to guide the team back to contention in a competitive division.
“Over the past seven years, Rocco has been much more than our manager. He has been a trusted partner and teammate to me in leading this organization,” said Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey in a statement. “Together we shared a deep care for the Twins, for our players and staff, and for doing everything in our power to put this club in the best position to succeed.”
Baldelli, 63, took the helm in 2019, inheriting a team in transition. He guided the Twins to a 101-61 record and an American League Division Series appearance in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. However, the team failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs in both 2020 and 2023, and finished with losing records in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
The Twins have begun the search for Baldelli’s replacement, with no immediate timeline for a hire. The team will evaluate both internal and external candidates as they seek a manager to lead them toward sustained success.
