Minnesota Golden Gophers News, Recruiting & Coverage – On3

March 21, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Minnesota Golden Gophers redshirt sophomore Max McEnelly will compete for a national championship in wrestling Saturday night, following a semifinal victory at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Cleveland. The University of Minnesota Athletics announced McEnelly’s advancement, alongside All-America honors earned by Andrew Sparks and Jore Volk during Friday’s session of the championships.

The Gophers’ wrestling success comes amid a busy spring season for Minnesota athletics. The women’s basketball team defeated No. 13 Green Bay 75-58 on a fourth-quarter comeback and is scheduled to face Ole Miss on Sunday, according to university announcements.

On the baseball diamond, the Gophers opened their three-game road series against Indiana University with an 8-6 loss at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. Despite the defeat, all nine starters reached base safely, the university reported.

In other athletic news, Sydney Schwartz pitched a two-hit shutout as Minnesota defeated Iowa 2-0 in the opening game of their series. Maggie Werner led off the game with a home run, contributing to the Gophers’ victory.

Golden Gophers football recruiting continues to be active, with three-star running back Mark Mathis including Minnesota among his spring visit plans, as reported by Rivals Football Recruiting. Former Gopher quarterback Tanner Morgan has too expressed approval of the team’s quarterback commit, Jett Feeney. Linebacker Kawai Chamberlin has scheduled official visits to both Big Ten and Pac-12 schools, and several other recruits are planning visits to Gopher practices, according to Rivals Football Recruiting updates.

The football program also received positive attention from David Hill, a defensive line recruit, who expressed his appreciation for the Minnesota coaching staff and has scheduled an official visit. On3.com reports ongoing coverage of Gophers football, basketball, recruiting, and NIL information.
