Ethics Complaints Lodged Against Minister Majodina
Following the confrontation, political parties moved quickly to file formal complaints against the cabinet minister. According to eNCA, the Democratic Alliance (DA) lodged an ethics complaint with Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests. DA parliamentary leader George Michalakis called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action against Majodina. ActionSA also filed a separate ethics complaint, declaring that there is “no place for this kind of behaviour,” as reported by eNCA.
Details of the Confrontation in Loerie
In response, the minister told him to leave and insulted him, stating that the individual had disrespected her. Kouga municipality administrator Kyle Minnaar, who attended the gathering, stated that the minister “chased a disabled member of Loerie out of the hall and called him ‘jou ma se p*es’.” Minnaar explained that the incident followed a question-and-answer session where a resident being removed disagreed with another attendee. While Minnaar noted that the resident may have spoken out of turn, he maintained that it did not justify the minister’s reaction, calling it disappointing that a minister would act in such a fashion toward a community member.
Analyst Warnings and Municipal Silence
According to The Citizen, political analysts warned that the minister’s reaction reinforces public perceptions that African National Congress (ANC) leaders are detached and arrogant. Minister Majodina remained silent following the swearing incident, according to News24.
